Pavement

From the Pavement we’re stepping elsewhere. It’s not a place to dwell in, it’s a place to pass through swiftly, or slowly, to reach another destination. Whether going home, to the woods, or to drive the road, pavement is a place you pause on to get your bearings. Pick your door and if you dislike it, pick another one, even if it’s exit. Not all roads are meant for all travelers but they are always open to travel if you change your mind.

From the pavement we can reach different vehicles that are parked by the side of the road ready to take in passengers. Pick your driver and state your destination. Be it a Former Pawn, a Vestigial Queen, a Rogue Rook, a Barred Knight, a Stray Bishop or a Just King, they will be careful drivers but as a passenger you may skip over avenues you find distasteful and exit at any station of your choosing even stopping the ride mid-road to find you own way back.

In each instance, hopefully your journey wasn’t a waste of time and some memories and lessons will stay with you to help you navigate the journey through the world we call life.

In ARHO Realms souls are as real as the body they wear. In it, souls, especially tainted ones, can be trapped on this side of death. Just how wise that is, only time will tell.

Darkest patterns are created when decency is lost. How to
survive on the distorted tiles without falling into the abyss of darkness? To
find love seems like a rare treasure one should attempt to hold as much as time
allows. Former Pawns will try to find their place in the world after the departure of their masters.

through it to enter a prison, or to escape it?
When

Vestigial Queens leave a trail of crumbs between stars by which we might one day reconnect, or destroy each other. While Humans escaped from Earth in the Exodus, they made the ARK Road as a means of salvation. What was meant to be one-way ticket to survival, is a first seed of the QuBoS Road that will span realms lasting long after Exodus ended. To watch the formation of the first paths is to understand the sacrifice that is needed to bring new generations into being.

You are ordered to leave Earth and abandon the rest of them to
die alone. Will you comply?
On the journey to the stars, if you’re allowed to leave, who
will you take as your plus one?
When you arrive on a new planet, will you bow to its rules or will you try to preserve the old order?

Schism is a rebellion out of necessity. A way of spitting
in the face of those who rejected you and decided that you’ll survive at all
costs.

Rogue Rooks can destroy everything in their path yet they choose to serve their sense of justice that won’t always be greeted with approval.

Outers are all who are not us. It’s easy to alienate everyone, it’s much harder to trust someone enough to let them near.

Trapped in the familiar that has become strange, will you dare to venture to strange new lands and be misunderstood by history?
Arriving at your destination but finding it unsettling, will you place your faith in strangers, or head back home to deal with misfortunes the best way you can?
Under the influence we might reveal our most inner weakenss, or we might get adamant to keep what we cherish.

Barred Knights might be restrained by many invisible rules imposed from within as much as from hidden enemies but even with limited moves they will search for ways to conquer and vanquish foes.

Onlookers might have long lives that give them the ability to see across time and crave immortality, but does that give them wisdom or madness?

Born in a conspiracy, destined to burn the world over and over again, but finding yourself falling in love against all odds. Will you be brave enough to reach out to touch the beauty before you?
Faced with certain death, will you do the right thing, whatever that thing might be, or will you try to win at all costs taking everything you want no matter the price?
Wanting to reunite without admitting you have desires might make things spin in a less than desirable direction.

Stray Bishops wander around the edges of what is acceptable earning their keep by acts of service. Their stray ways might preserve more than they destroy.

Handler is the one capable of dealing with Sumdrills of all orders without killing them. After all, Sumdrills are precious drilling machines all survival depends upon.

When a girl is lost, will you go out to save her even if it
will cost you everything you got?
When a woman is found not guilty but tainted, will you stand by her side or condemn her?
When we accept that we changed for good, how do we manage?

Just Kings are rare but being just a king isn’t all that it’s cut out to be. Trying to find another destiny might be more favourable. While at it, some nice company might do you good.

If your heirs that aren’t your children would be taken, would you go to save them even if they replace you?
When on the road, who will you trust, your long-time companions, or someone you just met?
Falling off the map might not be as bad as it sounds.

Riva Zmajoki is a biographer of some future people from worlds inhabited by everyday people that try to survive dire circumstances.
